On Monday we saw yet another “fashion prom” come and go. Better known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute gala, or Met gala, the yearly event didn’t disappoint. As always, along with glamour and sophistication, weirdness and questionable choices followed. There were those that followed the theme and those that didn’t (such as gala rule-maker herself, Anna Wintour).
This year’s theme was Charles James: Beyond Fashion. Seeing as Charles James was a mid-century designer of iconic ball gowns, you’d expect to see exactly that. There were some ball gowns, but being an unpredictable crowd, there were of course other looks that included pants, short dresses and crop tops.
Not being one to stick to the rules, I actually liked most of the looks that went against the theme. Ball gowns just aren’t my cup of tea, as pretty as they may be (did not mean for that to rhyme, but I’ll go with it). That being said, below are some of the looks seen at this year’s Met gala, in no particular order.
I’ll discuss my top picks in my next post, but in the meantime, who were your favourites? Let me know!
