2010 MET Costume Institute Gala: Best Dressed

Last night, one of the biggest social and fashion events of the year took place in New York.  The MET 2010 Costume Institute Gala brought out celebrities, models and designers in full force, and in their best attire.  This year’s theme was American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity, so of course many American designers were well represented, but there were also many European names, such as Pucci and Burberry.    Oprah co-chaired the benefit this year along with Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and Patrick Robinson from The Gap.

There were many lovely gowns to be seen, but then, as with any red carpet event, there were also some very unfortunate choices.

The bad: Kristin Stewart in a terrible Chanel dress, which I didn’t find flattering at all.  Although I did like Tina Fey’s pantsuit by Yves Saint Laurent, I didn’t think it suited the event, and the same goes for Alexa Chung’s Phillip Lim tux look, and Rachel Bilson’s Louis Vuitton ensemble (and I usually adore both Alexa and Rachel’s styles, so it’s quite unfortunate!).

The good: Emma Watson in none other than Burberry; Jennifer Lopez in a stunning Zuhair Murad gown; Zoe Saldana in a simple but beautiful (possibly my favourite) gown by Calvin Klein; Claire Danes in Burberry; Jessica Alba looking old Hollywood glam in a gown by Sophie Theallet for Gap;  Taylor Swift in a simple yet pretty white Ralph Lauren Collection gown; Nicole Richie in Marc Jacobs; Sienna Miller in Pucci; Anne Hathaway in a beautiful Valentino gown; Emmy Rossum in Kenneth Cole; Katy Perry (although many disliked her look, I thought it was great!) in a Cute Circuit gown; Rosie Huntington- Whiteley in Burberry; and Camilla Belle in a wonderful red Jason Wu gown.
