This morning, I woke up to horrible news, and I still can’t believe it’s true. I was very sad to find out that one of my favourite people in the fashion world, avant-garde British designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London apartment. At 40 years old, this is a very premature death, and according to many sources, it is believed that he committed suicide. By the time paramedics arrived on the scene, it was too late. It’s such a tragic end to the life of one of the most unique and creative designers out there. McQueen was the favourite of many; his designs and fashion shows were always spectacular, with his Spring/Summer 2010 show being one of my all-time favourites. His death comes right in the middle of New York Fashion Week, and just as he was set to unveil his fall collection on March 9th during Paris Fashion Week. With his provocative and edgy designs, Alexander McQueen has been both influential and controversial, and will be missed by his peers in the fashion world and his fans alike.
“At one level he was a master of the fantastic, creating astounding fashions shows that mixed design, technology and performance and, on another, he was a modern day genius whose gothic esthetic was adopted by women the world over.” –Alexandra Shulman, Editor of British Vogue
